Archer Nicky Hunt undeterred by Delhi reports

World number one compound archer Nicky Hunt insists she is not being distracted by reports of poor conditions in Delhi.

The build up to the Commonwealth Games has been marred by concerns over facilities in the athletes' village.

England's Hunt, 25, told BBC Radio Suffolk: "There's going to be people who spread negativity about the games, sadly I think that's part of it.

"I'm not going to read about it. I'll just get there and see what happens."

The Ipswich archer, who heads to India off the back of a disappointing outing at the World Cup final in Edinburgh, says she has had only positive reports about the compound.

"We went for a test event back in March but we stayed in a hotel at that point," she said.

"Our team manager's been out there and done a 'recce' and the pictures he came back with look absolutely fine.

"I'm sure it will be an absolutely fantastic even and I can't wait to be a part of it."

Hunt was on the wrong end of an upset as she exited the World Cup final in her first match, losing to fellow Brit and competition wildcard Andrea Gales.

The Commonwealth Games offer Hunt a rare opportunity to perform in a multi-sport event, as the compound discipline is not used in the Olympics, and she is keen to make the most of being on the big stage.

"This could be my only opportunity to be part of a big multi-sport games, that's really the thing that has driven me over the last three or four years," she continued.

Whilst these may not be the best games preparation wise, athletes should still respect the tradition of the games and the costs that it takes to host a games of this magnitude

"I think about my consistency in the World Cup this year and last year and I'm sure I can make another final and I'll try and prove a point then.

"In our World Cups and things we have TV coverage and the cameras, so standing there as an archer I don't think it will feel too different.

"You can't really think about those external factors, you've just got to get on with it and shoot the best you can."

England's archery team are set to fly out to Delhi on Sunday.
