Munroe (r) beat Fabrizio Trotta (l) in December in a title defence |
Leicester boxer Rendall Munroe will take on Spaniard Kiko Martinez in his next defence of his European super-bantamweight title. Munroe will face Martinez at the Barnsley Metrodome on 27 February. Manager Mike Shinfield told BBC Radio Leicester it is then likely that the bin man will then go for a world title. Shinfield said: "These things are always up in the air but it's quite likely that after this a world title fight will be on the cards." He added: "We were offered a world title fight prior to this one but Martinez was the mandatory challenger for the European title so we've had to go through with this one first." The 28-year-old beat Italian Fabrizio Trotta in the third defence of the title in Dublin last month. Munroe was awarded the Brian Clough Breakthrough title at the BBC East Midlands Sports Awards in November 2008.
