Munroe is gearing up to defend his European super-bantamweight title
Leicester bin man Rendall Munroe has told BBC Radio Leicester his dreams are finally coming true after picking up an award for his achievements in boxing.
The 28-year-old won the Brian Clough Breakthrough title at the BBC East Midlands Sports Awards on Thursday.
He said: "I'm in the game to become a world champion and these awards are recognising what I'm doing."
Munroe is currently preparing for the third defence of his European super-bantamweight title on 18 December.
He finished his final round on the bins on Friday and will resume full training at the weekend ahead of the fight against Italian champion Fabrizio Trotta in Dublin.
"If you want to achieve things in life then you have to do what needs to be done.
"Hopefully my trainer will be up there getting a coach's award next year because I'll be world champion," said Munroe.
Munroe's manager Mike Shinfield said: "Rendall's rated in the top 10 in the world in the two major bodies [WBA and WBC] so he qualifies for a world title fight.
"After this one we'll sit down and talk about it and see where we're going after that."
