Munroe is building towards a world title fight |
Rendall Munroe defended his European super-bantamweight title for a second time with a unanimous points win over Armenian Arsen Martirosian on Friday. The Leicester southpaw, 28, struggled to find his rhythm early on but began to exert authority in the fifth round. Munroe had Martirosian in trouble in the seventh with heavy body shots and combinations but the Armenian hung on. "It was a hard fight because we knew nothing about him so I took it as it came," said Munroe. "I went out and enjoyed myself and feel like I've moved up another step. "I've got a good team behind me and I was determined so I had to turn my game up a bit tonight." | 606: DEBATE | He made the biggest impression in the eighth when he significantly upped his workrate, landing 35 punches compared to the three from the stocky France-based Armenian. Munroe consistently landed punches in the remaining four rounds but failed to find the telling blow and the unknown Martirosian managed to last the distance. Munroe won the title in February when he beat Spain's Kiko Martinez.
