Middleweight Tom Duff (left) beat David Crellin in the evening's top bout |
Boxers from Guernsey and Alderney triumphed over a North of England select side at an open event held at Beau Sejour on Saturday night. The island fighters won nine fights to five finishing the evening with seven straight wins. Guernsey footballer Tom Duff rounded off the night with a middleweight victory over David Crellin. Duff told the BBC: "It was probably the most nervous I've been. It was one of my best performances." It was a night of firsts for several local boxers, with Scott Edwards and Renate Gouveia having particularly impressive debuts. Edwards beat lightweight Carl Ford by unanimous decision while the referee stopped the fight in Gouveia's favour. Gouveia said the knock-out of light middleweight Jamie Buchanan was down to "who had the best chin at the end of the day".
