Gammer has never met anyone in Williams' class |
British heavyweight champion Scott Gammer says challenger Danny Williams is "not the fighter he was". "I've always rated Danny, but in his last couple of fights he hasn't been the same man," Gammer told BBC Sport.
"His loss to Matt Skelton wasn't a good match, Danny looked very lazy and the extra weight didn't do him any good. There's nothing there to scare me."
Gammer, 29, stopped Mark Krence for the belt last month and has to defend against Williams before November.
Purse bids for the bout open on 9 August, but a deal may be done before that with Frank Warren thought likely to promote the fight, possibly on a Joe Calzaghe undercard at the MEN Arena on 14 October.
 | I think Danny will try to get back down in weight before facing me |
Undefeated Pembroke Dock-man Gammer has 16 wins (9 KOs) and one draw to his name since turning professional in 2002, but he has not met anyone in Williams' class.
"I think Danny will try to get back down in weight before facing me," said the Welshman.
"I'm back in training already and plan to make a few defences before seeing how much further I can go."
Gammer's manager Paul Boyce is confident that his fighter can overcome Williams' challenge, but has warned his man against complacency.
"The way Williams fought on Saturday I think that Scott - if fit and well prepared - would beat him," said Boyce.
"I've told Scott that on talent he can beat anyone, but he has to train properly and put in the hard graft."
