De la Hoya talks up British pair
Oscar de la Hoya
De la Hoya is still one of the most respected names in boxing
US legend Oscar de la Hoya is confident Junior Witter and Carl Froch will be genuine world champions within a year.

De la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions will promote light welterweight Witter and super middleweight Froch in the USA in partnership with Hennessy Sports.

"I respect what Junior and Carl are doing because they want to be genuine world champions," said De la Hoya.

"I would be shocked if they didn't have genuine world title belts around their waists within the next 12 months."

The British duo are due to fight in Nottingham on 9 July before returning to the United States.

And Witter is relishing taking on the very best in his division.

"Me and Frochy loved bringing the heat to America, so after we have taken care of business on 9 July we will be looking to head back out there," he said.

"I am going to target - and beat - the best light welterweights in the world.

"I want Floyd Mayweather, Arturo Gatti, Miguel Cotto and Kostya Tszyu, once he has finished with (Ricky) Hatton.

"At some point I will still want to squeeze Ricky in. It's not about business, its personal. I want to knock him out."
