Froch maintains unbeaten record
Carl Froch
"The Cobra" is determined to take on Joe Calzaghe
Carl Froch produced an impressive display on his American debut to stop Henry Porras in their super middleweight bout in Los Angeles.

The unbeaten Nottingham fighter was well matched by Porras in the opening exchanges but by the fifth round Froch started to take control.

With Porras being pounded on the ropes, his corner threw in the towel with 56 seconds gone in the eighth round.

The British champion has now won 12 of his 15 bouts inside the distance.

He was determined to prove himself on the American stage and the win over the current WBO Latino and WBA Fedelatin super middleweight title holder ranks as the best of his career so far.

"I said I was going to make America sit up and take notice and I have done just that," Froch said afterwards.

"I would have stopped him earlier had my hand not gone and if the referee had intervened at the right time, but I am still delighted with my performance.

"I started a bit cagily having been out since September, but as soon as I found my range we both knew it was all over."

The fight is the first of a series of fights designed to force WBO champion Joe Calzaghe to face him.
