IBF super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy says he wants to fight WBO king Joe Calzaghe later in the year. "As soon as I get my mandatory out of the way, I would like to fight Joe. If we can't get him over here, I have no problems in going to Wales," he said.
Calzaghe meets Brian Magee in Belfast on 18 March, but if he wants to keep his WBO crown after that he faces a mandatory with Mario Veit in Germany.
A shot at Clinton Woods' IBF light heavyweight belt is another option.
Calzaghe's promoter Frank Warren issued a challenge to Woods after the Sheffield man claimed the vacant title with a fifth-round stoppage of unbeaten American Rico Hoye on Friday.
A move up in weight is known to be the favoured option for Calzaghe, but Woods says he would rather fight Glen Johnson again and that the Welshman needs to establish his credentials in the 175lb division.
Meanwhile, German promoters Universum have outbid Warren for the rights to stage Calzaghe-Veit, should the former choose to stay at super middleweight.
Veit is interim WBO super middleweight champion, with Calzaghe the WBO's 'super' champion at the weight.
The German was blown away in one round by Calzaghe four years ago, but that is his only defeat in 44 fights and he has 15 wins to his name since the loss.
More attractive options for Calzaghe at super middleweight would seem to be summer meetings with either WBA champion Mikkel Kessler or Lacy, who vowed to unify the division after a seventh-round stoppage of Rubin Williams on Saturday.
But 32-year-old Calzaghe has increasing problems making the 168lb limit and would prefer a move up to face Johnson or Woods.
