Warren hands out Woods challenge
Clinton Woods
Boxing promoter Frank Warren has issued a challenge to new IBF light heavyweight champion Clinton Woods to take on his fighter Joe Calzaghe.

WBO super middleweight holder Calzaghe has made known his desire to step up and become a multi-weight champion.

And BBC Sport understands that Warren has made an offer to Woods' promoter Dennis Hobson, presuming that Calzaghe wins his March fight with Brian Magee.

But Woods has told Calzaghe he must earn the right to bid for the title.

The 32-year-old from Sheffield proved his critics wrong by winning the vacant IBF belt with a fifth-round stoppage of unbeaten American Rico Hoye.

Why won't British fighters other than Clinton Woods fight eliminators?

And he made it clear that he would most like to avenge a prior world title loss to Glencoffe Johnson.

"I'd love to fight Glencoffe again, that's the fight I want," said Woods.

"Everybody is talking about Calzaghe - let him come up [to light-heavyweight] and fight an eliminator.

"Why won't British fighters other than Clinton Woods fight eliminators? Let him fight one and I'll give him his crack."
