Skelton looks to retire Williams
Matt Skelton and Danny Williams
British heavyweight champion Matt Skelton expects to end Danny Williams' boxing career when the pair go head-to-head in Bolton on 16 July.

"Danny is a man living on the memories of beating a faded Mike Tyson and he won't be able to do what he did to him against me," said unbeaten Skelton, 38.

"We saw the real 'Dynamite Dan' when he fought Vitali Klitschko," Skelton said of his rival's subsequent loss in 2004.

"He was dynamite. Every time Klitschko hit him, he exploded on the canvas."

Skelton believes he can win the bout whichever way it is fought.

"If Danny wants to go to war with me - I can't wait," he said.

Everyone knows that Skelton is just a big rough brawler with no skill

"I may not even go toe-to-toe with him, I may decide to box and teach him lesson but either way this is a fight that he cannot win."

But Williams, who has vowed to retire if he loses, sees things differently.

"This is going to be a war - it will not go the distance and it will be trench warfare right from the very first bell," he said.

"Everyone knows that Skelton is just a big rough brawler with no skill, but he has a big heart.

"I'm a better and more skilful fighter than Skelton with even more heart and could beat him with my hands down.

"But I am going to prove a point that he cannot rough me about and will fight him at his own game and knock him out."

Billed as "Who's the daddy?", Skelton v Williams is scheduled for the same night as Olympic silver medallist Amir Khan's professional debut.

And an optimistic Williams said he expected it to be a battle for the ages, standing comparison to the legendary middleweight dust-up between Marvin Hagler and Tommy Hearns in 1985.

"I want this to be like Hagler-Hearns - a fight that people will remember me by," he said

"People remember my fight against Mark Potter when I fought with a dislocated arm and my scrap with Mike Tyson, but I think a war against Skelton will top them both."
