Danny Williams outclassed Hungarian Zoltan Petranyi to earn a third-round stoppage on the undercard of Ricky Hatton v Kostya Tszyu in Manchester. The British heavyweight had not fought since suffering a punishing loss to Vitali Klitschko in December.
But he was not troubled in a tune-up ahead of his clash with compatriot Matt Skelton in July.
Welsh cruiserweight Enzo Maccarinelli knocked out Roman Vurgha in the first round on the same bill.
Williams conceded the manner of his win proved nothing, but said he was making progress.
"He was awkward and outclassed but you have just got to get on with the job," said the Brixton fighter.
"You are going to be seeing the real Danny Williams again soon. I will fight
or box or do whatever against Skelton.
"I have not lost any of my hunger and I am focused on getting back to the top. I know that is what I need to do."
