Wales' Commonwealth gold medal-winning boxer Jamie Arthur has signed professional forms with Frank Warren's Sports Network.

The Cwmbran fighter, who turned professional last month, defeated Zambia's Dennis Zimba in the lightweight category to become the first Welsh boxer to become champion at the games since Howard Winstone in 1958.

Warren also manages Wales' WBO Super Middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe.

Mancunian Andy Morris, who claimed bronze in the lightweight division in Manchester, has also joined the Warren stable.

Sports Network hope that Arthur and Morris will spearhead their campaign to feature the best in young domestic talent.

Arthur has often spoken of his pride at following in the footsteps of the great Merthyr fighter Winstone, and now hopes to emulate his achievement in winning a world title.

"Winning Gold at the Commonwealth's was a dream come true and now it is the world title that I want," said Arthur.

"That's a long way off but for now I want to concentrate on my career and learn the trade from the bottom all the way to the very top."

Arthur's pro-debut date will be confirmed shortly, whereas Morris will take his bow on the undercard of Anthony Farnell's WBU World Middleweight title defence on 18 January at the Preston Guild Hall.

The 19-year-old, known as the 'Wythenshawe Warrior', said: "I am delighted to turn professional at last and now look forward to making my debut and working my way to the top.

"The Manchester fight scene is the best in the country at the moment with talent such as Ricky Hatton that Frank Warren has brought through and I am looking forward to becoming a big name in my own right."
