| Sunday, 24 November, 2002, 14:27 GMT Winning returns for Pryce and Lockett ![]() Lockett made a winning start at middleweight Young Welsh boxers Gary Lockett and Bradley Pryce got their careers back on track with victories on the Johnny Nelson undercard at Derby's Storm Arena. Lockett won an eight-round points decision over Victor Fesechko of the Ukraine and Pryce stopped Craig Lynch of Scotland in the fourth. Both Lockett and Pryce suffered the first defeats of their promising careers in their last outings. Cwmbran puncher Lockett, 26, was badly beaten by Yuri Tsarenko of Belarus in June, a fight that made him decide to move up to middleweight. "I feel much easier up at middleweight," said the self-styled 'Rocket Man.' "I tried to convince myself I could make the weight but I was wrong."
The stylish Newbridge fighter, known as 'Sugar Sweet,' will be glad to get back to winning ways, but his future may also lie in a heavier weight division. Stable-mate Joe Calzaghe said: "Bradley's very young and will grow into a welterweight. "He knows his main mistakes - he can be too loose and drops his hands. "He's working on that and is really eager to improve." |
