| Wednesday, 20 November, 2002, 01:02 GMT Jones stripped of title
The move came after Jones turned down a mandatory defence against top-ranked challenger Antonio Tarve. He will instead take on World Boxing Association heavyeight champion John Ruiz. That fight is set for 1 March in Las Vegas, although Jones has yet to sign paperwork with promoter Don King. Jones let a Monday deadline to appeal the IBF decision pass. With middleweight, super-middleweight and light heavyweight titles on his resume, Jones has beaten every man he has faced. He will be taking on the biggest challenge of his 14-year career in facing Ruiz, a man who naturally outweighs him by 40lbs. |
