Black entered the race for the first time in 2010 |
Former Olympic silver medallist Roger Black will join Manx Parish Walk experts in April to offer advice on how to tackle the 85-mile challenge. The panel will explain what it takes to compete in what is considered to be one of the island's toughest individual sporting events. "I entered last year and absolutely loved it," said Black, who walked the first section of the race in 2010. The 'Walk Talk' will he held at the Manx Museum in Douglas on 17 April. "I was a sprinter not a marathon man during my athletics career," 1996 medallist Black, now 44, continued. "I am planning to go further this June and my training is reflecting that. However, being realistic, I know my limits and won't be walking through the night." The panel, which will include Jock Waddinton, who has won the last three races, will offer tips and hints on training, diet, footwear, clothing and the support entrants will require. Organiser Simon Plumb said: "The talk is aimed at both first timers and those who are looking to improve their previous target, distance or time." The 85-mile challenge takes walkers around the island's 17 parishes and must be completed with 24 hours. The 2011 race gets underway at 0800 BST on Saturday, 25 June from the National Sports Centre in Douglas. People who want to take on the Manx walking challenge can sign up on the Parish Walk website .
