Pavey won the Great South Run in both 1996 and 2006 |
Exeter distance runner Jo Pavey has pulled out of Sunday's Great South Run because of sickness. The 37-year-old, who won the race four years ago, has not fully recovered from a recent flu bug. Pavey's absence means that Commonwealth 1500m bronze medal Stephanie Twell will be the leading British athlete at the race in Portsmouth. Twell will be up against the 2008 Olympic marathon champion, Romania's Constantina Dita. Kenya's Grace Momyani, the 2010 Commonwealth Games 10,000m gold medallist, is also amongst the favourites in the women's race.
