Ciara Mageean's main target for this year in the World Juniors in Canada

Ciara Mageean signed off from the schools ranks with a stunning performance in Tullamore on Saturday.

Mageean cut more than 11 seconds off Sinead Delahunty's Irish Schools Championship record as she won the senior 1500m in 4:19.00.

Other Ulster winners included Katie Kirk, Joanna Mills and Adam Ingram.

A number of Irish Milers Club races were also held in Tullamore and Gareth Turnbull clocked 3:45 to finish just behind Ennis athlete Rory Chesser.

Chesser (3:45.08) made his bid for victory early and just held on to beat the fast-finishing Turnbull and Omagh man Noel Collins, who set a new personal best of 3:46.47.

Belfast man Turnbull is back in action after several injury-hit years.

He again missed several months of training over the winter but is hoping to put himself in the frame for selection for the Commonwealth Games, or perhaps even the European Championships.

Turnbull will compete in next Saturday's Northern Ireland Championships at Antrim.

Kildare man David McCarthy achieved the European Championship 800m qualifying time as he clocked 1:48.18 to win in Tullamore ahead of Alan O'Brien and West Waterford's David McCarthy.

In the Irish Schools events, Ballyclare High's Joanna Mills won the senior long jump in 5.99m and also took the senior 400m in 55.69.

Hazewood College's Adam Ingram won the Intermediate 1500 in a record-equalling 3:57.44 while Katie Kirk won the Intermediate 300m in a championship best of 39.19.

St Eunan's Letterkenny talent Mark English claimed his expected senior 800m win in 1:53.31.
