Ciara Mageean improved her own Irish junior indoor 800m record as she clinched the AAA's Under-20 title.

Mageean led all the way as she clocked 2:07.78 which cut .04secs off her previous mark set when she won this year's Irish Indoor Championships.

Mageean's main target for this summer will be the World Juniors in Canada.

Paddy Monaghan and his brother Andrew took gold and bronze in the U17 1500m in Birmingham while Katie Kirk won the U17 300m and took silver in the 800m.

Monaghan, who like his brother is coached by Rory Friel, achieved a championship record of 3:57 in the U17 metric mile final while Andrew was also under four minutes.

Kirk won the U17 300m title in 39.2 and clocked 2:15 in the 800m final.

Mageean, who won World Youth silver last year and also clinched European Youth Olympics gold, will be in action on Wednesday at the Ulster Schools Cross Country Championships in Mallusk.

While her main summer target is the World Juniors, Mageean could also be aimed at the Commonwealth Games in October as she has the 800m standard for the championships in Delhi.

Meanwhile, Rose-Anne Galligan has become the latest Irish athlete to qualify for the World Indoor Championships in Doha.

Galligan achieved the 1500m standard when clocking 4:12.72 at the Spanish Championships and she will join Lisburn athlete Kelly McNeice in the event in Doha.

Galligan's time was almost two and a half seconds inside her previous best and was comfortably inside the Doha standard of 4:15.00.

Derval O'Rourke continued her encouraging build-up tot the World Indoors by improving her season's best to 8.00 when finishing second at a meeting in Norway.
