Guernsey athlete Katie Rowe took a silver medal in the UK Cross Challenge Series in Cardiff on Sunday. Rowe, 12, led the event with only 400 metres to go, but was outsprinted at the end by race winner Lydia Turner. Turner's winning time was nine minutes and 46 seconds, with Rowe finishing just a second behind. Third-place went to Newquay runner Charlotte Cayton-Smith, who came home in nine minutes 50 seconds to claim the bronze medal. Rowe's success in Cardiff follows on from a second-place finish at the European Cross Country Championships in Liverpool in November.
