Fawke will compete in the Toronto marathon for Team England |
A mum from Telford has been selected by Team England to take part in this month's Toronto Waterfront marathon. Kim Fawke, 33, from Sutton Hill, made the team after completing this year's London marathon in a personal best time of two hours and 42 minutes. The Telford AC athlete told BBC Radio Shropshire she was shocked when selectors called to let her know the good news. "I was really stunned because I wasn't expecting it at all," she admitted. | The coach who's been helping me has given me a lot of advice about how to cope with the time change, so hopefully I'll be ok | Fawke, who has never raced abroad before and only took up running when she was 20, now has a coach who is helping prepare her for the race on 28 September. "It's all quite a scary experience," she said. "The coach who's been helping me has given me a lot of advice about how to cope with the time change, what to do and what not to do, so hopefully I'll be ok." The amateur athlete has had to fit her training around her part-time job with Telford and Wrekin Council and looking after her four-year-old son. "It's kind of tough. I'm always on the go and I never stop," she said. Fawke says her ultimate goal is to qualify for the England team for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
