Brizzel storms to 200m title
Paul Brizzell
Paul Brizzel wins title with a storming finish
Northern Ireland's Paul Brizzel won AAA's Norwich Union World Indoor 200 metres title in Sheffield on Sunday.

The Ballymena athlete pipped Belgrave's Tim Abeyie on the line to cause a minor upset.

Brizzel broke the tape in 20.98 seconds just outside his personal best. Brizzel was third fastest of the heat winners.

Ireland's Paul Hession was fancied to take the crown, but Brizzell came with a great sprint in the final 20 metres to take the glory.

Meanwhile, there was no joy for the fancied James McIlroy in the 800 metres.

He failed in his bid to take the crown when he trailed in behind Sudan's Ismail Ahmad who led all the way around.

McIlroy did register a personal best of 1:50.32, but he had not the power to reel in Ahmad who finishes clear in 1:49.39.

Anna Boyle claimed bronze in the women's 60 metres with a personal best of 7.49 seconds.

In the 60 metres hurdles, Tamsin Stephens came home fifth in a time of 8.36 seconds. The winner was Belgrave's Sarah Claxton in 8.11.

Ireland's Robert Daly took the 400 metres honours in a personal best time of 46.68 while Ciara Sheehy collected the 200 metres title in a season's best of 23.41 .
