Hunt has won one gold and two silvers in this year's World Cup |
World number one compound archer Nicky Hunt believes she will have to overcome American Erika Anschutz if she is to claim World Cup glory. Ipswich-based Hunt, 25, heads into this weekend's final in Edinburgh as the top seed, but is wary of American Anschutz. She told BBC Radio Suffolk: "I'd put my money on her being in the gold final. We've got a really good rivalry. "I managed to knock her out on the way to the gold match in Shanghai. She's a fantastic competitor and one to watch." Hunt's gold medal at Shanghai two weeks ago means she will face the lowest ranked quarter-finalist on Sunday, which happens to be fellow Briton Andrea Gale. "We do a lot of travelling together and we have a lot of fun," said Hunt. "Being ranked number one should give me the easiest opponent. | 606: DEBATE |
"But you have to remember these are only 12 to 16 arrow matches, so anything could happen on the day." Hunt, who is also in the mixed team final alongside Chris White, will prepare herself for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi as soon as she returns from Scotland. But Hunt says the World Cup is a much more more sought after title. "In the archery world, the World Championships are foremost and then I'd say the World Cup finals are the second thing on the list," she added. "In the archery world the Commonwealths wouldn't be something the sponsors would be too interested in because a lot of them are American."
