Nicky Hunt happy with World Cup silver

Suffolk compound archer Nicky Hunt says she was pleased to take silver in the Turkish round of the World Cup.

The 25-year-old matched her result in Croatia in May and rises to third in the world rankings.

She told BBC Radio Suffolk: "To be in two gold finals in two World Cups is pretty amazing really and I'm really, really pleased with that.

"The final didn't go as I would have liked, but that's where you learn and what makes you stronger and better."

Hunt succumbed to 21-year-old Erika Anschutz in the final, in the young American's first ever gold medal match, but defeated Canada's Ashley Williams along the way, the woman who pipped Hunt to first place in Croatia.

She said: "I got a bit of revenge in the semi-finals of this tournament. It shows we've all got potential to be up there.

"With the competitions just being 12 or 15 arrows, it's really about who's shooting best on the day."

However, it was not a great tournament for Great Britain's womens' compound team, who went out to eventual silver medalists Iran in the quarter-finals.

"It was a bit of a surprise to be honest but they really did shoot well," Hunt said.

"The whole tournament in Turkey was a new format, which meant in the team round we only actually shot one arrow each on each end.

"Not many people like the new system, particularly for the team round and I think that needs to be moved back to two arrows each."

The next World Cup round will be in Ogden in the USA in August, followed by Shanghai and then Edinburgh.
