Simon Terry has reached the Grand Final of archery's World Cup series despite losing his first-round recurve match at the final qualifying event.

Great Britain's Terry was beaten by China's Wenquan Li in Shanghai but advances to the finale in Copenhagen.

Fellow Brit Nicky Hunt also qualified in the women's compound after reaching the quarter-finals to secure her place.

Elsewhere Naomi Folkard made it through to the women's recurve quarter-finals before losing to Korean Ok-Hee Yun.

Folkard beat fellow Briton Charlotte Burgess 103-99 in the last 16, while the other British competitor, Alison Williamson, went out in the first elimination round to Japan's Miki Kanie.

That ended Williamson's outside chance of making the women's Grand Final.

Larry Godfrey also failed to reach the men's Grand Final when he lost his first elimination round in Shanghai.

Alan Wills beat China's Hai Feng Xue 111-103 before losing in the last 32.

British performance manager Barry Eley saluted the "fantastic achievement" of Terry and Hunt in reaching their respective Grand Finals.

"Nicky has had a fantastic World Cup, with two fifth-place finishes and a gold in Porec, and she's been in great form all year.

"Qualifying for Copenhagen is the result of all the hard work she has been putting in.

"Simon, of course, has been superb since he returned to the sport five years ago.

"Qualifying for Copenhagen is just another milestone for him after winning a World Championship medal two years ago, taking part in last year's Beijing Olympics, and winning individual and team medals at various World Cup events, including his gold in Turkey this year."
