Qatar Open, Doha World number one Andy Roddick made an early exit as Sweden's Jonas Bjorkman eased to a straight-sets victory. Roddick had little trouble beating Nikolay Davydenko in the first round but found the experienced Bjorkman a tougher proposition.
The American was never in control and went down 6-3 6-4 as his Australian Open preparations suffered a setback.
Bjorkman will now face Agustin Calleri in the last eight after the Argentine beat Moroccan Hicham Arazi 4-6 6-4 7-5.
Fourth seed Sebastien Grosjean moved through with a comfortable win over Bohdan Ulihrach of the Czech Republic.
The Frenchman came through 6-1 6-4 to set up a meeting with Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic, who beat Robin Soderling of Sweden 6-2 6-4.
Grosjean's compatriot Nicolas Escude saw off Ivo Heuberger 6-3 6-2 and next faces Hyung-Taik Lee after the South Korean saw off Stefan Koubek of Austria 6-4 6-4.
Britain's Tim Henman beat Argentina's Juan Igancio Chela 6-3 6-4 to earn a quarter-final clash with Armenia's Sargis Sargsian, who came back to beat Russia's Mikhail Youzhny 3-6 6-3 6-2.

Top seed Wayne Ferreira suffered a humiliating defeat to wildcard Todd Reid as he failed to master the windy conditions.
Ferreira went down 6-0 6-1 to the 19-year-old Australian in his first match of the season.
"It felt pretty good beating the number one seed in the first round," said Reid.
"It was windy out there and I think that troubled him a bit, but I stuck to my guns and came through."
Swedish wildcard Thomas Johansson continued his comeback from a serious knee injury with a 6-4 6-3 win over third seed Arnaud Clement of France.
In other matches, Frenchman Michael Llodra defeated eighth seed Nicolas Lapentti of Ecuador 6-1 6-3, and Greg Rusedski saw off Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland 6-4 6-2. Fifth seed Taylor Dent beat Karol Beck 7-6 (8-6) 7-5 despite a brief rain delay, while second seed Vince Spadea defeated Wayne Arthurs 6-4 6-7 (6-8) 6-3.

Defending champion Paradorn Srichaphan beat Harel Levy of Israel 6-2 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals.
But seventh seed David Ferrer of Spain went down 6-2 6-3 to Russian Igor Andreev, while eighth seed Anthony Dupuis lost 7-5 6-3 to fellow Frenchman Jean-Rene Lisnard.
Fourth-seeded Spaniard Tommy Robredo beat Denmark's Kenneth Carlsen 6-2 6-2 to book his place in the last eight.
And Thierry Ascione of France beat 17-year-old Spaniard Rafael Nadal 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 in a first-round match.
