Despite her lack of success, Kournikov remains a huge draw |
Anna Kournikova is poised to play in a United States Tennis Association (USTA) event in Georgia next month. Tournaments run by the USTA are a step down from Kournikova's usual dates on the Women's Tennis Association tour.
The Russian tennis ace pulled out of last week's Challenger event in Dothan, Alabama, with a thigh injury.
But Kournikova is keen to step up her preparations for the French Open by competing in the $25,000 (18,000) clay-court tournament at Sea Island from 4-11 May.
"This will be a huge thing for us," said club tennis pro Dickie Anderson.
"It's unheard of at this level to have a player like her."
Kournikova, ranked 67th in the world, is recovering from a torn abductor muscle in her thigh.
She has not played in a USTA circuit event since 1996.
