The superb 63-cap France flanker had planned to call it quits at the end of last season but the chance to play with long-time France colleague Raphael Ibanez, and some persuasion from Lawrence Dallaglio, was enough for him to sign a two-year deal. At 34 he is well into veteran status but he was the leading tackler in the 2007 Six Nations by a distance and has terrorised England in the professional era. His ruthless one-man search and destroy mission on Jonny Wilkinson in the 2002 Six Nations encounter in Paris, which France won 20-15, was one of the finest defensive displays the game has ever seen. On the pitch his relentless movement is one of his defining characteristics but until moving to Wasps the Cameroon-born flanker had spent his entire career with Basque aristocrats Biarritz.
