While other England Under-20 players were making their mark on the Premiership last season, Simpson was on loan with the venerable Blackheath club in National Division Two. But the 5ft 11in Wasps scrum-half is a lively presence around the breakdown and was a constant threat for the England youngsters during the summer. Indeed, he was so impressive that, along with two baby All Blacks, he is one of three players nominated for the IRB Young Player of the Year award.
