York's in the frame
Castle Museum in York
York is steeped in rich history
With the UK Championship in town, BBC Radio York's Bernadette Burbridge proves that there is more than just history to admire in the northern city.

What to do in York? How much time have you got?

York delivers enough local history to satisfy any would be Magnus Magnusson

There's the much-admired Jorvik Viking Centre and of course the Castle Museum and Yorkshire Museum.

For the art buff, there are three theatres, cinemas and art gallery: Theatre Royal, York Opera House, Friargate Theatre, Warner Brothers and Odeon.

Check out the pubs - one for every hour of your day.

If you like the antiquated pubs then there's The Blue Bell.

For the people who love something more modern, there's the trendy HaHa and real ale pubs with real sawdust on the floor like The Last Drop Inn (Dick Turpin Theme thrown in for good measure).

After all that walking around, hunger will start to strike.

Luckily there is wide selection of eateries in York: the middle of the range Plunkets, the trendy DeAlto and the haute cuisine of Blue Bicycle and Meltons.

York is a beautiful city. There are riverbanks from which to admire the boats and riverboats from which to admire the banks.

You can shop and shop and shop until you stop off at one of the hugely popular tea and coffee houses. Or you could walk the mighty city walls.
