Paul Nicholls trained his second Gold Cup winner and claimed the title of National Hunt champion trainer for the second successive year in a memorable 12 months.

The 45-year-old's Somerset stable is home to Denman, Twist Magic and Gungadu as well as the sport's present steeplechasing superstar.

Kauto Star took the Gold Cup in a victory that earned connections a �1m bonus as it completed a treble of wins in the King George VI and Betfair Chase at Haydock - which Kauto Star recently landed again.
