Mick Kinane sent Proclamation from last to first to land the big prize on day two at Goodwood.

In descending gloom, Proclamation missed the kick but the course and distance winner settled down at the back as Kieren Fallon on Ad Valorem made the running.

From two furlongs out, Kinane let Proclamation go and the colt made good his escape, though the James Fanshawe-trained favourite Soviet Song, last year's winner, got up from third-to-last to a close second.

Fallon and the Aidan O'Brien representative Ad Valorem stayed on to claim third.

The unbeaten colt edged out the Martin Johnson-trained Black Charmer after the lead changed hands several times on the run-in.

Black Charmer, ridden by Joe Fanning, made all and chose to hug the far rail, forcing Sir Percy to abandon plans to head for the stand side.

Cool Creek nudged out Black Charmer for second, while Aidan O'Brien's 15-8 favourite Aussie Rules, under Kieren Fallon, struggled to fourth on the soft ground.

Following a stewards' inquiry into the behaviour of the first two horses on the run-in, the result remained unchanged.

John Egan on board the Jamie Poulton-trained Theatre got up for third.
