Basketball positions: small forward

Point guardPower forwardCentreSmall forwardShooting guardNews image

The small forward is probably just as important as the point guard.

They are also called "point forward", and many offensive moves begin from this position.

Shooting is a large part of their game, but they will also be heavily involved with defensive duties.

Small forwards are typically the best one-on-one player on his or her team, and are usually better outside shooters than power forwards.

They are also often smaller and quicker than power forwards, and more likely to play facing the basket and to take jump shots.

There is actually nothing "small" about players in this position - they average around 6ft 7ins in the professional leagues.
