Basketball positions: point guard
Point guardPower forwardCentreSmall forwardShooting guardNews image

The offensive lynchpin, point guard is perhaps the most important position on the court for a team's offence.

They are also called the lead guard or one guard, and usually possess the best passing or ball-handling skills on their team.

They direct play going forward and decide which moves should be made.

The point guard is often the smallest player on the team.

After an opponent scores, it is typically the point guard who brings the ball down court to begin an offensive play.
