Olympic three-day eventing gold medallist Leslie Law admitted he was "thrilled to bits" after becoming an MBE in the New Year Honours List. Law finished first in the individual competition in Athens and also helped secure team silver for Great Britain.
"It's a great way to finish what has been a great year," he said. "I never dreamt that so many fantastic things would happen.
"Then there's the MBE to cap it all off - I'm thrilled to bits. It is amazing."
Law became one of the major stories of the Games in Greece when he finished second in the individual competition but later had his medal upgraded following an appeal.
Initially, Germany's Bettina Hoy had taken top individual honours and helped her country to team gold.
But Hoy and the Germans were stripped of their medals when the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled she had crossed the start twice in the show jumping phase.
The error meant she accrued an additional 12 penalty points that pushed her out of contention and lifted Law to the top of the podium.
Law's team-mate Pippa Funnell was promoted from fourth to third in the individual standings and Britain climbed up to silver behind champions France.
Law eventually received his gold medal at a special presentation at Buckingham Palace on 18 October.
