Cavan 0-13 1-9 Fermanagh

Cavan's young captain Ronan Flanagan says that defeating Fermanagh was a great achievement.

Cavan pulled off an upset as they edged out Fermanagh at Breffni Park to clinch a place in the Ulster SFC semi-finals.

Eamon Maguire scored the only goal for the Ernemen after eight minutes but Cavan were more clinical in attack and they led 0-8 to 1-4 at the break.

The Breffni team surged into a four-point advantage early in the second half only for Fermanagh to hit three points without reply.

The excellent Seanie Johnston fired over a late point to secure the win.

Johnston gave Cavan, who were playing against the wind, the perfect start with two fine points in the opening three minutes.

Fermanagh's first score was the goal, with Daryl Keenan putting Maguire into space before the forward flicked the ball over advancing keeper James Reilly and into the net.

Points from Martin Reilly and Cain Mackey restored Cavan's lead only for Mark Little to equalise.

Sean Brady put the Breffni men back in front and Ryan Carson pointed for Fermanagh before Johnston claimed his third point from a free.

Maguire went close as he fisted just wide and the ball was at the other end seconds later with Hugh Brady's block keeping out a Mackey shot, but Sean Brady followed up to fire between the posts.

Keenan and Martin Reilly added frees while Ryan McCluskey curled the ball inside the far post for the final point of the half.

The impressive Johnston started the second half as he did the first with another superb point.

Two Martin Reilly frees put four points between the sides but Carson hit back by shooting over from a tight angle.

Fermanagh boss Malachy O'Rourke says they missed too many chances in the defeat by Cavan at Breffni Park.

Mackey made it 0-12 to 1-5 before frees from Little and Carson and a fisted Barry Owens point left Fermanagh just one score back.

However, Johnston showed his class once again on 67 minutes with a quality point.

An injury-time free from Little was not enough as Cavan claimed a narrow victory.

Cavan will meet the winners of next weekend's game between Donegal and Antrim.
