Robert Lawson could be crowned champion in his debut season |
Richmond's Robert Lawson is still in with a chance of winning this year's Seat Cupra Cup pending an appeal. After the final rounds at Brands Hatch Lawson leads the standings by 21 points but he could have 25 points deducted. His team is appealing against the penalty for an off-set camber on one of his wheels which was caused by an impact with a kerb on track. Lawson said: "Whatever the outcome of the appeal we should be happy with what we've achieved." If the appeal fails Lawson will be runner-up behind last year's champion Jonathan Adam.. | You've got to reflect back on 2008 and think it's been a fantastic year |
He added: "It's been a long year but I think we've shown what an excellent job the team has done. "Wherever we finish you've got to give everybody a pat on the back. We've done a fantastic job and we've proved that this year. "That's why to be fair, without the appeal it wouldn't have been that close at the end of the year. "You've got to reflect back on 2008 and think it's been a fantastic year. "Before this year I hadn't actually driven one of these cars before and Jonathan Adam had had a season in it. "The team I went to were completely new to these cars. This has been a huge learning curve for both driver and team. I think we've done ourselves proud."
