Yep, sorry. In fact, talking of Americans, remember Ben Curtis and Todd Hamilton? These two came out of nowhere to win the Open in 2003 and 2004. And if the wind roars across the Angus coast, the cat could be blown well and truly among the pigeons...

Woods was "only" seventh in 1999 but his Royal Golfness has won 11 majors since then and is probably quite keen to add Carnoustie to his list. That'll leave him five majors short of Jack Nicklaus' record. At that rate he could hang up his clubs after the 2009 Masters.

But links golf can deal some funny bounces. And that's why we love it.
