Sergio Garcia beat South African Retief Goosen on the first sudden death play-off hole to win the Nedbank Challenge in Sun City.
Garcia led by one shot overnight and hit a 70 in his final round at the Gary Player Country Club to finish on 14 under par.
Goosen's 69 put him on the same score but the Spaniard clinched victory when he holed from 10 feet at the first play-off hole for a birdie, which the South African could not match.
Vijay Singh was third, three strokes behind the leading pair with Darren Clarke one shot further adrift after a final round of 67, the best of the day.
Victory marked the end of Garcia's title drought in 2003. Last week in Japan he led by three shots going into the final round but hit a 78 to fall away from contention.
The 23-year-old won the Sun City title in 2001 when he beat another South African, Ernie Els, also on the first play-off hole.
Garcia began his round badly, shanking his second shot at the opening hole and having to settle for a bogey but he recovered to birdie the 3rd and 4th.
No other player made a real challenge, leading to a matchplay-like situation between the two leaders, who were the last to tee off.
Garcia, who earned 700,000 for his victory, was delighted to end his long run without a title.
"It's a great feeling to do this especially after a year in which I've struggled to get my swing right, and it looks like I've got it right," he said.
