Love has won four titles this year |
Davis Love III won The International by a record margin on Sunday and moved to the top of the PGA Tour money list in the process. Love, who had led since the first round in Colorado, was never put under pressure as he compiled four birdies and three bogeys in solid one-under-par 71, which was worth five points in the modified Stableford format at Castle Pines.
He finished with 46 points, two short of the tournament record.
His 12-point margin over runners-up Retief Goosen and Vijay Singh was easily the biggest in the tournament's 18-year history.
"Obviously, the first two rounds set the tournament up for me," said Love, who compiled a tournament-record 36 points after 36 holes.
"All I had to do was play good on the weekend and not make any big mistakes.
"I basically won it with my putter the first two days."
Emotional win
It was an emotional victory for Love as he claimed his first tournament win since his brother-in-law committed suicide in May while being investigated for stealing money from Love's bank account.
Dedicating the victory to his wife, Robin, Love said: "Things are going to get better for you and me and this is going to pass."
Love collected $900,000 (562,000) as he claimed his 18th PGA Tour victory and his fourth of the year.
Chris DiMarco finished fourth with 33 points, and John Rollins was fifth with 31.
World number two Ernie Els had the best round of the day, a 66 that netted him 13 points and lifted him into a tie for sixth with Phil Mickelson.
