Goosen lands Lancome win
Retief Goosen in action in Paris
Goosen led from the first round

Retief Goosen held off the challenge of Paul McGinley to win the Lancome Trophy in Paris after leading from start to finish.

The South African, who started the day three shots in front, soon extended that to five and looked home and dry.

However, playing partner McGinley then managed to cut the lead to just one shot, only for Goosen to pull away.

In the end the South African won by a comfortable four shots, carding a final-round 70 for an 18 under par total of 266, with England's Ian Poulter sharing third with France's Raphael Jacquelin five shots back.

The 200,000 win moves Goosen into 10th on the European money list but he's still 1m behind Ernie Els with seven events to come before the end of the season.

Goosen, who led from the first round, had seemed set for a simple final round after moving to five clear at the first hole, when he birdied and McGinley bogeyed.

FINAL LEADERBOARD
-18 Retief Goosen (SA)
-14 Paul McGinley
-13 Ian Poulter, Raphael Jacquelin
-12 Nicolas Colsaerts (Bel), Hennie Otto (SA)

That left young Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts to take up the chase and twice he succeeded in reducing the deficit to two shots.

However, Goosen went three clear again on the ninth when Colsaerts found trouble off the tee, but there was more drama to come at the 11th.

With McGinley sitting just eight feet from the hole, Goosen took two to escape from rough to the right of the fairway to make bogey.

That led to a double-bogey six while McGinley calmly holed to close the gap to just one shot.

Goosen could be forgiven for thinking back to 2001 when he lost a four-shot lead with four holes to play to Sergio Garcia.

But he responded to the threat in style with birdies at the next two holes, the second from a matter of inches, to edge three ahead again.

That proved decisive and Goosen's path to victory was sealed when both McGinley and Colsaerts ran up double bogey sevens on the 16th.
