Lewis is seeking only his second tour title |
Tournament officials suspended the third round of the John Deere Classic as relentless rain made the course at Deere Run unplayable. The third round was scheduled to begin at 9am local time but was delayed first for an hour, then for two and again for three before finally being suspended.
"The golf course has taken on a lot of water," PGA tournament director Dillard Pruitt said.
"It took on some yesterday, which caused us to suspend play Friday for 40 minutes.
"The golf course superintendent, Chris Hogue, feels like with the weather we are going to get for the rest of the day, that we can have the golf course ready for tomorrow."
JL Lewis, whose only PGA Tour win came here in 1999, is at 12-under-par 130, two strokes better than Jonathan Byrd. Vijay Singh of Fiji is third at eight-under 134.
Chris Riley and Paul Stankowski are tied for fourth, another shot back. Justin Leonard, Kevin Sutherland and Bernhard Langer of Germany are tied at six under.
