Jacobsen sets pace
Pater Jacobsen
Jacobsen continued his good form
Peter Jacobsen overcame consecutive bogeys on the back nine to take a one-stroke lead at the halfway stage of the Greater Hartford Open.

But female qualifier Suzy Whaley missed the cut by eight strokes following a second-round 78.

Jacobsen, who shared the lead with Jay Haas after an opening 63, carded a three-under 67 on Friday to reach 10 under for the tournament.

ROUND ONE LEADERBOARD (US unless stated)
-10 P Jacobsen
-9 J Haas
-8 D Stiles, P Goydos, W Wood
-7 C Barlow, B Henninger, JJ Henry, R Damron
Haas would have continued to tie with Jacobsen but for a final hole bogey, but he is a shot back after a 68.

Whaley meanwhile, the first woman to qualify for an event on the men's tour since Babe Zaharias in 1945, shot an eight-over 78 to finish on 13 over par.

The local teaching professional finished ahead of three men in the field, but later said she did not expect to make competitive golf a regular habit.

"I absolutely loved every minute of it," the mother-of-two said.

"It was a pleasure to be here and I think any time you face a challenge like I did this week, you can only grow from it.

"I don't see my life ever going back to the way it was but I don't see my priorities changing.

"My family is the most important thing in the world to me. They come first, and I think it's very hard to try to play at a high level competitive golf when you have young children."

Darron Stiles shot a seven-under 63 to jump into a tie for third place with Paul Goydos and Willie Wood.

JJ Henry, Craig Barlow, Brian Henninger and Robert Damron are another stroke back on seven under.
