York City left-back Chris Carruthers felt the performance in the 5-0 win against AFC Wimbledon sent a message to the rest of Blue Square Premier.
City are in the play-offs unless they lose their four games, Crawley win their five and make up a 33-goal swing.
Carruthers told BBC Radio York: "Everyone's delighted to be in the play offs now. I think it'll send a few waves across the league.
"From start to finish I thought we were brilliant all over the field."
He continued: "It was a bit surreal to come in at half-time 4-0 up against a good team as well."
Carruthers was one of four changes made to the team by manager Martin Foyle.
The full-back said: "I think it shows the strength of depth in the team. I've had my injury and I've had to sit out on the bench a couple of games.
"I managed to get back in and basically when you're called upon you have to do the job and I think we did tonight."
If the table remains as it is, Carruthers will face former side Oxford United in the play-off semi-finals on 29 April and 3 May.
