Hereford have held off the appointment of a new manager to replace Graham Turner after a late surge in interest.

"When we came in we inherited the applications from when John Trewick left the club back in March," said new vice-chairman Tim Russon.

"We've been bowled over by the number and the quality of the applications.

"But it is a question now of putting the final touches to the search. It's crucial as it's our first appointment and he is replacing Graham Turner."

He added: "We have put the word out through the League Managers Association so have had a lot of applications from there."

Having replaced former Edgar Street supremo Turner at boardroom level, Russon and new chairman David Keyte initially had a three-man shortlist to replace him in the dug-out.

But the fact that experienced players Ryan Green and Kenny Lunt have agreed new terms at Edgar Street has eased the pressure to a degree.

While the Bull's new board have had to hit the ground running, Russon now feels that they can afford to take their time to ensure they make the right appointment.

"I would say there are five or six managers, players and coaches out there with whom we would be happy," added Russon.

"While we are not seeing everybody, I am talking to a lot of people who have phoned up and I am sounding them out about how they might fit into Hereford.

"We've got a rough idea of what we're looking at but it is a question of making sure that we've gone through the whole field that is available.

"We've got time now as we are settling in so let's just make sure it is the right person.

"He needs to be right for the team and everything needs to gel together."
