League One threatens to be as competitive as ever this season with many clubs confident of winning a place in the Championship.

Nottingham Forest replace Sheffield Wednesday as the big name team but Forest face some heavy competition for a promotion spot.

BBC Sport looks at six prospects who could have a telling impact on the shape of the division this time around.

Commons pledges Forest future

Commons, 21, was a rare bright spark in a horrendous season for Forest last term and he is key to their hopes of getting back in the Championship.

A winger who possesses great dribbling ability, a sublime delivery and a thunderous shot from distance, Commons has the potential to cause havoc in League One.

Injuries did hold him back last term and Gary Megson will be hoping he can stay fit for the entire campaign.

If he can, Forest have every chance of living up to their tag as favourites.

Eastwood not for sale - Southend

Eastwood, 21, enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame last season after starting the campaign with Grays Athletic.

He took his chance with both hands, bagging 24 goals and helping Southend climb out of League Two in the process.

A hat-trick on his debut against leaders Swansea helped Eastwood settle at Roots Hall and the tall frontman never looked back.

He has attracted plenty of attention from higher leagues but Southend need to keep him to consolidate their position.

McLeod pens new Dons deal

The 20-year-old with explosive pace set the division alight last season - how Derby fans must wish they had not let him leave last summer.

McLeod burst onto the scene as a promising 17-year-old at Pride Park but struggled to become a regular in the side and left for Milton Keynes for �150,000 last summer.

He produced a series of scintillating displays and showed real sharpness in front of goal as the Dons narrowly avoided the drop.

Danny Wilson has built a promising young squad and McLeod is central to their aspirations of a play-off place this time around.

Mirfin signs new Terriers deal

Mirfin, 20, has quickly established himself as the rock upon which the Huddersfield defence is based.

He graduated from the academy in the 2003/04 season and during the last campaign made 44 appearances as the Terriers just missed out on a League One play-off place.

A tall, commanding centre-half, Mirfin is a good reader of the game who allies pace with strength and is rarely beaten in a one-on-one situation.

He can play anywhere across the back four and can also be used as an emergency striker, who scored five times last term.

Johnson likens Oliver to Crouch

The 21-year-old centre-half was Woking's Player of the Year last season and now has his chance to make a mark on the Football League.

Oliver is a 6ft 4in defender who takes no prisoners and he will strengthen a Yeovil defence that leaked the most out of the top 10 in League Two last term.

A five-figure sum took Oliver to the Glovers and boss Gary Johnson expects him to be a dominant force in their first ever season in the third tier of English football.

Johnson has also hinted he may use Oliver's height in attack on occasions, likening his aerial ability to that of Liverpool striker Peter Crouch.

Parker signs new contract

Parker, 23, was a key figure in a Blackpool side that enjoyed a renaissance in the second half of last season to stave off the threat of relegation.

He notched 12 times in 43 games for the Seasiders after a slow start at Bloomfield Road and will want to continue his form into the new campaign.

The pacy little frontman causes problems for defenders with his sharp movement and quick thinking and is not afraid to try his luck as well.

Parker has got his career back on track after a bad injury halted his progress and his goals could see Blackpool challenge at the right end of the table this term.
