There were no league matches in Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt, the Ivory Coast, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia because of African club competition ties at the weekend.

Caps United fans are celebrating a seventh straight league victory

Caps United won their seventh successive match of the new premier league season to open up a five point lead at the top of the standings.

However they needed a late winner to beat Zimbabwe Saints 1-0 on Sunday with captain David Sengu scoring with a long-range strike eight minutes from time in Harare.

Shabanie Mine, who won their first five matches, were beaten 2-0 by Highlanders in Bulawayo on Sunday.

They remain on 15 points and have dropped down to third place. Railstars are second with 16 points.

South Africa

Kaizer Chiefs dropped two points in the title race after being held to a goalless draw by Silver Stars in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Despite the draw the Chiefs, chasing their first championship in more than a decade, maintain a five-point lead over closest rivals Ajax Cape Town with six matches left.

Ajax were not in action over the weekend.

Moroka Swallows moved into fourth place following a 2-2 draw at Lamontville Golden Arrows in Durban.

Swallows are out of the title race but are chasing a place in African club competition next season.

Angola

Primeiro de Maio of Benguela remain in relegation trouble despite a 2-1 away win over Academica Lobito on Sunday.

Primeiro de Maio have seven points from their first nine matches of the season and are just above bottom club Bravos de Maquis, who lost 2-1 at Progresso de Sambizanga in Luanda on Saturday.

League leaders AS Aviacao and Petro Atletico, who have 18 points from their first nine matches, were among four Angolan clubs involved in continental competitions over the weekend

Zambia

Power Dynamos lead the premier league in the second week of the new season after beating newly promoted Lusaka Celtic 3-0 away on Sunday.

Rwanda striker Jean Lomani scored the first goal to add to his hat-trick last weekend and raise his tally to four goals in two matches.

National Assembly, Kabwe Warriors, Young Arrows and Nchanga Rangers are all two points behind.

Champions Zanaco have yet to begin their campaign after participating in the African Champions League, which they were knocked out of by Malawi's Bakili Bullets over the weekend.

Nigeria

Second placed Iwuanyanwu Nationale beat leaders Dolphins 2-0 on Sunday but there is still a five point gap between the two sides at the head of their premier league table.

It was only the Dolphins' third defeat in 14 matches and leaves them on 31 points.

Gabros International beat Wikki Tourists 1-0 to go third on 23 points, ahead on goal difference over Mighty Jets.

Jets won 1-0 away at Plateau United on Saturday with Felix Orode scoring just before half-time.

Plateau's loss was one too many for the club's board who sacked coach Nduka Ndubuisi after the match.
