Giresse won't be in charge at the Nations Cup |
Frenchman Alain Giresse has turned down the chance to manage the DR Congo at next year's Nations Cup final in Tunisia. This latest news comes despite reports that the former France international had acccepted the post.
Maurice Munda-Kampambwe, the administrative and financial director of the DR Congo's football association, told the BBC Sport website that they are still looking for a new coach.
The Simbas have been without a manager since July, after Joseph Mukeba left to work with a South African club after leading the country to Nations Cup qualification.
"He - Giresse - turned down the offer last week but we are currently in talks with Englishman Mick Wadsworth.
"We are expecting him to arrive in Kinshasa before the end of the week," he said.
Wadsworth was sacked from his post at English third division side Huddersfield Town in March.
DR Congo, who have not won the Nations Cup since 1974, have been drawn with hosts Tunisia, Guinea and Rwanda in Group A of the Nations Cup tournament.
A preliminary squad of 48 players has already been picked for the tournament, with the new coach expected to meet up with his players at a training camp in South Africa later this month.
