Howard Wilkinson (pictured left) picked the town that beer built for its centrality to all of England's football breeding grounds, not its proximity to London.
He wanted Burton to be more than just the national team's training base, he wanted it to be a "university of football" that belonged to everyone.
But the NFC is only 117 miles from Wembley, under two and a half hours' drive away.
