Sullivan exposes Hoddle's reign
Former Spurs goalkeeper Neil Sullivan claims Glenn Hoddle's lack of man-management skills was a major factor in his White Hart Lane sacking.

Former Scotland goalkeeper Sullivan moved to Chelsea earlier this season following a lengthy spell in the wilderness after Hoddle signed Kasey Keller.

And Sullivan revealed Hoddle's tactic of freezing players out of his squad back-fired and contributed to growing discontent.

Sullivan told BBC Radio Five Live:"There was certainly discontent in the dressing room. Everyone knows about his man-management skills - or lack of them.

"There were a lot of players who were not happy at the club, which didn't help, but it was the results that have really cost him his job."

Sullivan confirmed widespread speculation that the breakdown of Hoddle's relationship with members of his squad created major problems at Spurs.

He said: "Once he made his mind up you felt you were not going to get a chance again.

"One minute the manager is not talking to players when they are out of the side, and then with injuries you need them to play for you - it is not a great way to manage a club."

Sullivan added: "I felt I didn't have a chance no matter what would have happened. The chairman then went to my agent and said they were going to start putting my name around, so you get the idea you're not wanted at the club."

He also accused Hoddle of making too much of Spurs' injuries as a reason for their poor results.

Sullivan said: "We had injuries, but so did everyone else. The disappointing thing was that in every interview he's done that was brought up as the reason for the poor results."

He also pin-pointed the decision to ignore players like Tim Sherwood as another mistake by Hoddle.

Sullivan said: "That was the way the manager was. He didn't, for whatever reason, like Tim as a player and that was that. All of a sudden you miss what Tim gave to the team.

"The players have a certain responsibility, but I think it is ultimately the manager who runs the club and there were a lot of people within the club, players and otherwise, who didn't like the way he went about it.

"Unless you have got 100% backing that makes your job very difficult."

Sullivan also insisted he would almost certainly reject the opportunity to play for Hoddle if he was ever given the opportunity again.

He said: "Never say never, but I would certainly think twice."
